Boehringer Ingelheim, founded in 1885, began with just 20 people employed to manufacture tartaric acid salts. Today, 125 years later, they are a research-driven group of companies dedicated to researching, developing, manufacturing and marketing pharmaceuticals that improve health and quality of life. Their objectives and beliefs can be summed up in a single phrase: Value through innovation.
The large pharmaceutical company has a 100,000 gallon fire water supply tank at their location on Ridgebury Rd in Ridgefield, CT that required insulation for freeze protection as required by the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association.) Fire protection water storage tanks that are in colder regions are required to have tank heaters and permitted to be insulated to CONSERVE energy per NFPA 22 codes section 16.1-16.5. The RIDGLOK® Vertical Standing Seam Panel Insulation System was installed to prevent the fire water from freezing in frigid temperatures. This system will also help to reduce maintenance costs for the end user.
The tank was utilized to hold water for fire protection at a pharmaceutical plant.
The tank was a 40.5’ diameter x 32’ high welded tank. The project was completed on June 11, 2015.
The RIDGLOK® Insulated Panel System consisted of 0.024 stucco-embossed aluminum metal jacketing), in Fawn, laminated to 2” polyisocyanurate insulation board with an R-value of 13.1, using a straight design roof system.
The project was started and completed on time in the spring of 2015.
The project was completed on time despite multiple rain delays and road closings around the job site causing congestion in the area.
Upon completion of the project, the manager stated that he was both satisfied with the work and would recommend MC&I and the RIDGLOK® Panel System to others. He also stated that our crew did a “great job.”
The RIDGLOK® Vertical Standing Seam Panel Insulation system is used for freeze protection in fire protection tanks. The panels can be applied to all types of tanks, including flat bolted, chimed bolted, glass lined, fiberglass, welded, stainless steel and concrete. The tank does not need to be taken out of service to install the system. Insulating fire protection tanks with RIDGLOK® Vertical Standing Seam Insulation provides energy savings by reducing the amount of electricity needed to heat the tank.
