The FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Toledo Machining Plant located in Perrysburg, OH sits on 169 acres. They manufacture steering columns for various plants across the United States as well as Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, & Egypt. The plant also manufactures torque converters for plants in Indiana, Michigan, and Mexico. The facility is part of the UAW Local 1435 and employs about 1,033 workers.
The plant construction began in 1964 with production starting in 1966. Toledo Machining Plant expanded in 1969, adding 226,000 square feet. Several products are specified vehicle safety items, requiring precision machining operations with high quality standards.
In August 2011, the Company announced that it would invest $72 million to produce steering columns, and new generation torque converters for the eight-speed rear-wheel-drive and nine-speed front-wheel-drive transmissions. Nearly two years later (April 2013), the Company announced an additional investment of $19.6 million to increase capacity of the nine-speed torque converter.
